Description
This 40’ boxcar with Bettendorf trucks was rebuilt in 1965 from older cars built in the late 1940s to fill the growing need for additional boxcars. It featured DF-8 loaders and movable bulkheads to help secure loads. C&O was formed in 1869 in Virginia, and became a large Class I railroad on the East Coast, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1972, it became part of the Chessie System, after merging with B&O and Western Maryland. After several more mergers, the heritage of C&O lives on today as a part of CSX Transportation.
