Many freight cars continue service long after their time hauling loads on the rail is over. A common sight across the country are flatcars, minus trucks and couplers, being used as vehicle bridges over creeks and streams. Some are just laid on the ground over a span, others are fitted with new wood decks and guardrails sitting on formed concrete piers.
