Painted vermillion over grey, the “Pacemaker Freight Service” was a less-than-carload express service that ran from 1946 through the mid-1950s, and was conceived to help the railroad “keep pace” with competition from the expanding trucking industry. Painted vermillion over grey, this caboose was intended to accompany Pacemaker boxcars.
