Description
This 50’ standard box car with 10’ single door, no roofwalk and short ladders is green with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This boxcar started out as a 40’ car and went through a rebuilding program at the Beech Grove Shops to become 50’ in length, as capacity demand increased in the 1960s. New York Central merged with its rival, the Pennsylvania Railroad, in 1968 to form Penn Central, which went bankrupt two years later and was merged into Conrail in 1976.
