Description
This HTx-Class 2-bay coal hopper with Bettendorf trucks was built in the late 1950s and continued in revenue use through the 1970s. Reading can be traced back to 1833 as the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, one of the first railroads in the United States. Over time it became just ‘Reading,’ and remained profitable through World War I. By the 1960s, declining profits led to bankruptcy in 1971. In 1976, the remaining assets were merged with other railroads to form Conrail.
